As an EcoStay™ participant, our hotel is committed to helping protect our planet by reducing our energy consumption and waste. Our goal is to leave a smaller carbon footprint, but we need your help. We have already implemented many environmental initiatives throughout the hotel and we are planning even more. In addition, we are offsetting the impact of your stay with carbon credits, making your stay completely carbon neutral and good for the planet.
What is EcoStay? The EcoStay Program supports hotels across North America in their effort to take action against climate change. The program includes three main components; measuring our hotel’s carbon footprint, funding of on-site environmental initiatives and carbon offsetting our unavoidable emissions, making your stay completely carbon neutral and good for the planet! What is carbon offsetting? Carbon offsetting is balancing the emissions we can’t avoid with projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions on our behalf. By supporting emission-reducing projects we can balance-off all the emissions from heating your room, powering the lights and TV, heating water, washing linens and disposing of waste. Because we all share a global atmosphere, an emission-reduction anywhere helps us all. Where does the Money go? Through the EcoStay program our hotel is adding a $2 nominal fee to each room night. Each night you stay with us, we’ll make a contribution on your behalf to the EcoStay Motherland Reforestation Project, making your stay completely carbon neutral and good for the planet. Here is how the money is being used:  How will the money be used? The money will be used to fund the program, as follows: ⇒ 15% for sustainability tracking, education and consulting. ⇒ 25% for new conservation initiatives throughout our hotel. ⇒ 60% towards the EcoStay Motherland Reforestation Project. EcoStay is a fully transparent third party program so you can rest assured that an independent party is monitoring all our collections. Carbon offsets are supplied by LivClean, a top ranked carbon offset retailer by the David Suzuki Pembina Institute. Each project is serialized and tracked on the Canadian Standards Association’s CleanProjects Registry or the Markit Environmental Registry to ensure proper reporting and independent verification. All offset projects meet the strict requirements of ISO (International Organization for Standardization) or VCS (Verified Carbon Standard). Do I have to pay? Although 97% of guests participate, it’s always your choice. The fee can be removed from your bill, at your request. |
